Madoff's sons and close business partners, both Mark and Andrew worked in the trading arm of BLMIS's New York office while also marketing the Madoff to reap new investors. While the brothers allegedly contacted their attorney immediately after Madoff's confession to report him to authorities and were even estranged from their parents following arrest, this has long been suspected of being an act to protect their assets from legal seizure. Much like others in Madoff's immediate family and inner circle, both Madoff brothers were sued by trustee Irving Picard to the tune of nearly $200 million. Two years to the day following his father's arrest, Mark Madoff was found hanging in his SoHo apartment. Andrew Madoff would pass away almost four years later following a battle with brain cancer. In June of 2017, Picard settled with both of the sons estates for over 23 million dollars leaving a approximately less than $2 million in assets for each estate.
